Woke up in Solana Beach this morning. That's the magic of tour. You pass out in a parking lot in the middle of the Mojave Desert, and you come to a few hundred feet away from the Pacific Ocean. Rented a bike from a wide-open corner shop and spent an hour riding up and down Highway 101, marveling at the glowing, open expanse across from the expertly-manicured lawns of what surely must be multimillion-dollar bungalows-

Hello, friends! Rob here. Isn't it amazing how sometimes you chance across a song that sounds like it was written just for you in that specific moment in time? I had one of those moments today, and so I thought that, in lieu of writing an actual entry, it would be fun to just post the lyrics to that song and let you all draw your own conclusions:

People. People. People. I had a moment last night. Seriously, y'all. A moment. We were doing "King of What,” and that's a song where we get all intimate and what have you, and the last couple of shows we've been crowding around Dave's mic and singing it all foklsy-wolksy, and it has been cool and stuff, but, for whatever reason, it happened to strike me at that moment just how fortunate we've been to get to do all of the things that we do.

I'm exaggerating, but we did hit our first real obstacle today. Weather conditions along the route from Aspen to Denver were severe enough to require snow chains, causing a delay on the road which forced us to push our date with KTCL back a few hours, which then meant that instead of stopping by KTCL on the way to the Ogden, we had to bus directly to the Ogden so the crew could load in and start setting the stage while the band caught rides back to the radio station to perform a few songs.

Last night I was thinking about this thing we did in elementary school where the teacher asked us to write down our five best friends, ranked in order of best-ness. In retrospect, this was an inherently cruel exercise, and I can't fathom its intended purpose.

Spirits are high. My concerns about last night's outdoor show, while not without basis in reality, were perhaps the result of playing cold outdoor shows in places less well-equipped for cold weather than a ski resort seven thousand feet up the Wasatch Mountain Range. There were, to my recollection, eight different heaters blasting the stage throughout the show, which was enough to keep me almost in tune for the majority of the performance.

Not really. But I've always wanted to say that. Disaster has yet to strike- knock on wood. Semi-related: I recently saw a tweet claiming that the chorus to The Mighty Mighty Bosstones' breakout hit "The Impression That I Get” is written as "I never had to, knock on wood.” Note the comma.

Technically, this could be considered day two, since we flew out yesterday, spent some time working out our stage setup for the tour, and slept on the bus last night, but today is the first show of tour, so I'm calling yesterday Day Zero, mostly because "Day Zero” sounds badass.
