Spirits are high. My concerns about last night's outdoor show, while not without basis in reality, were perhaps the result of playing cold outdoor shows in places less well-equipped for cold weather than a ski resort seven thousand feet up the Wasatch Mountain Range. There were, to my recollection, eight different heaters blasting the stage throughout the show, which was enough to keep me almost in tune for the majority of the performance.

Not really. But I've always wanted to say that. Disaster has yet to strike- knock on wood. Semi-related: I recently saw a tweet claiming that the chorus to The Mighty Mighty Bosstones' breakout hit "The Impression That I Get” is written as "I never had to, knock on wood.” Note the comma.

Technically, this could be considered day two, since we flew out yesterday, spent some time working out our stage setup for the tour, and slept on the bus last night, but today is the first show of tour, so I'm calling yesterday Day Zero, mostly because "Day Zero” sounds badass.

I've been thinking about electricity a lot lately. When we last left off a few weeks ago, we were on our way to Wesport, CT. What I didn't mention (for fear of jinxing us) was that, due to what I can only describe as the vagaries and technicalities of bus law, we were running, oh, roughly ten hours late.

This is it. After a spring dotted with lengthy stints at home, and a summer of weekend fly gigs, we're officially back on tour. Real tour. Three and a half weeks of eat-rock-sleep-drive, crisscrossing miles of country, dancing with thousands of shining faces, making new friends, seeing old friends, vanquishing old foes, and occasionally pausing to take a nap or to purchase an ironic t-shirt.

I'm not really sure where this story begins. In a way, it starts with a gift from my brother, either for my birthday or Christmas, sometime around 1998. In a way, it starts with a scene from a movie, or a late-night drive. In a way, it starts in Los Angeles in 1985, when the city's hedonistic depravity was approaching a tipping point.
